Who would have thought that a safety campaign from Melbournes Metro Trains could become one of the hottest pieces of content this side of Gangnam Style?! The 4 minute animated musical featuring little monsters that get sliced and diced in rediculous and down right stupid ways has amassed 12.5 million views and counting with no paid media support. It’s a great story for strong content, that even in a world where 72 hours of new material is uploaded to YouTube every minute the cream still rises to the top. Enjoy it, and don’t come back here complaining if you find your self humming the tune for the rest of the say!
Two awesome music videos released within hours of one another. In the red corner is the phenomenal Chili Peppers interactive video for their latest track called ‘Look Around’ and in the blue corner is the latest viral smash from OK Go called ‘Needing/Getting’. The juries out in my opinion, mainly because they are both very different. If my life depended on it though I’d probably give it to the RHCP due to the technical innovation. What are your thoughts?

Charlie bit my finger, LOL Cats, The untimely death of Jeff Goldblum in 2009 (he didn’t really die!), these are all pieces of content or ideas that have gone viral online. Sometimes we can determine why and other times it just seems to be a serendipitous clash of relevance and resonance. In a bid to add a little more knowledge and best practice around crafting a viral hit the team at Problogger have pulled together the following info-graphic;
Although largely conceptual, there are some interesting strategies and theories that will point any budding ‘viral marketer’ in the right direction. Read more…
I’m pretty sure the next 4 weeks will be dominated by Christmas campaigns and 2011 review videos like this one from Bing. Curiously they released this in November insinuating that Bing or Microsoft as a whole don’t recognise the month of December! The video covers the most searched terms that have shaped the last year from the devastating Tsunami that shook Japan to the sad passing of Steve Jobs. It’s both a reminder of the breakthrough and heartbreaks that we have all experience in 2011 and a springboard to a fresh start in 2012.
For those outside of Australia the headline will probably mean nothing to you, but here in Australia it’s a big deal, a REALLY BIG deal. To give you some context, at the start of the year Cyclone Yasi wiped out the seasons Banana harvest in Queensland devastating the epicentre of the Australian Banana industry. This left the growers with no income for most of the year, and Banana lovers around the country (foreign imports are banned) with high prices, bad quality and an increasingly limited supply.
But the good news is that bananas are now back, the crop has recovered, awesome high quality bananas are flooding supermarkets and retailers and those high (up to $17 per KG!) prices are coming back down. To celebrate, my team lead by @OllyWilton (follow him) have put together a less than conventional program to relaunch the humble banana!
The first step was to re-engage with our existing communities whos consideration and we are sad to say ‘love’ for the great Aussie banana had fallen over the last 9 months. First our Facebook community got a massive update and we joined twitter tackling the existing banana conversation head Read more…
Halloween, your every day average Zombies favourite time of the year is just around the corner and to celebrate Axe (or Lynx) has released this cool video that clearly demonstrates that even the living dead can get hot girls with the right anti-perspirant! Just a little fun that made me smile. Enjoy.
Something light and easy to start off Monday with. Snapdragon, the mobile processor by Qualcomm decided to create a ‘Bug Circus’ with the sole intention of charging the battery on their mobile phone! Seems strange but imagine if all you needed each night to recharge you mobile was a tarantula, scorpion, praying mantis, dung beetle and pair of hissing cockroaches! Who wouldn’t disown their energy provider in favour of insect power? Yup, didn’t think so! Regardless, its still an entertaining piece of content, enjoy!
Clearly hotels.com are super pleased with their mobile app, so pleased in fact that they decided to through a guy out of a plane at 15,000 feet and make him book a room at the hotel he was about to parachute into! To be honest, if I were free falling at terminal velocity I’d be more concerned about surviving than choosing the thread count of my bed sheets, but that probably won’t make a very good video! So did he succeed? Watch below.
Remember the ‘Rear view girls’? The kiwi ladies that put cameras in their jeans and busted all the men that checked them out? Well now Cosmo for Guys, a recently launched magazine title has had some fun reversing things. Pinhole cameras were placed all over one guys body before he was sent to the streets to chat to unsuspecting women who’s momentary gazes were captured in this video!
Who doesn’t love ASOS? In my office not a day goes buy without one of our lovely ladies receiving a parcel of new clothes. But ASOS isn’t just about female fashion, and to promote their new autumn/winter range for guys they have created this amazing piece of content. The film aims to showcase the latest trends in culture, music, art and fashion and features raw talent from London, Paris and Tokyo. Enjoy!
