The launch of the all new Volkswagen Beetle needed to be as fun as the car itself. With all new aggressive styling, a massively upgraded interior and that same cheeky personality the advertising needed to literally jump off the page. Funnily enough that’s exactly what the auto maker and Red Urban have done. Using a custom augmented reality iOS app every billboard/poster is packed full of hidden interactive goodness. Simply hold up the phones viewfinder (while running the app) over the VW Beetle panel and BOOM! Its certainly an innovative take on the traditional outdoor format and brings the Beetle to life in exactly the right way but I do have concerns over the number of people willing to take the time or make the effort to fully experience the campaign.
Jot.ly, a new mobile app from Firespotter Labs claims to allow you to rate anything and everything. From friends reactions, girls you pass on the street to your favourite hiding spot! The thinking behind the app seems to be related to the rise user generated reviews and the fact there are now apps available to rate pretty much any niche element of society, from restaurants, entertainment, experience and even food. So why have a load of individual apps when you can have just one! Genuine or not, the video made me smile.
There have been some great ideas that have been funded by Kickstarter but none, and I mean none are better then this one. I present Run, Zombies! The world of GPS tracked running is good but is a bit same same. Nike+, Run Keeper, Track My Run etc, all do a good job of tracking your performance but aren’t great at motivating you to run further or faster. That is all about to change because with Run, Zombies you are being chased by, yes, Zombies! I can already picture people running around parks and city streets with scared looks on their faces as imaginary Zombies close in! Genius!
And here are some mock-ups of the app itself. Are you not excited!? Read more…
