Is The End Of The World Just A Marketing Campaign?

Spoof agency videos, oh how they make me laugh…occasionally.  Here’s the latest one to do the rounds from French agency Buzzman entitled ‘The Last Greeting Card Ever’.  The idea behind the spoof is that the Mayan prediction of 2012 being the end of the world isnothing more than an elaborate marketing stunt to raise brand awareness vs the Egyptians!

Google Maps Goes Analogue In New Video

To coincide with CES and highlight some of the new features that Google Maps has recently added, Google released this uniquely analogue film from new ad agency Venables Bell & Partners.  The spot revolves around a huge wooden gyroscope that follows a blue marble around model streets stopping off at a restaurant and barber shop along the way.  Its an interesting concept and one that feels very ‘Google’!  If you are interested in finding out more about what Google Maps now has to offer then start here.

I’m a big advocate of big brands who use their success to do a little good in this world.  It doesn’t happen enough considering all those corporate profits are a result of the little guy buying their wares.  Thankfully Coca Cola Philippines have done just that with this heart warming initiative.  I won’t spoil the pay-off but will simply ask that you watch until the end.  This is what Christmas is all about.  Well done Coke.

Disney Takes Over Time Square With Augmented Reality

The Christmas campaigns are coming thick and fast right now and this latest augmented reality example by Disney is perfect for the kids.  Using one of the many giant digital billboards in Time Square anyone wanting a Disney experience can stand opposite the big screen in a specially marked circle which is being filmed and broadcast back to you in real time.  Its at this point the magic happens, everyone’s favourite characters from Mickey to Buzz Light Year begin to appear around you via augmented reality.  Although you can’t interact with the characters the experience is ideal for the little ones and certainly keeps the mystery and enchantment of Christmas alive.

eBay Opens QR Code Powered Store Front In New York

Whats that you say?  Browsing eBay online is too easy and you wished they made it more complicated and confined it to a single store in New York?  Well its your lucky day because thats exactly what they’ve done with the eBay ‘Inspiration Room’ concept store.  Located in New York any passer-by can stop, scan the QR code (with their mobile phone) of any item they have taken a liking to and be taken to a purchasing page with more information!  Sarcasm aside, the idea does have merit, but in my opinion its real niche is for existing physical retailers to offer a more stress-free and streamlined purchase process.  The opposite transition from virtual to bricks and mortar store doesn’t seem to add any value to the shopping experience.
