Info-graphic : Who Exactly Is Using Google+

As brands and marketers continue to prod Google+ with a stick the obvious question to ask is “So who exactly, if anyone is using Google+?”.  A completely fair question and one that is still no easier to answer thanks to Googles unwillingness to share numbers.

Who Using Google+?

However the team at Flowtown have managed to piece together the jigsaw puzzle of disperate G+ stats and pull them together in this handy info-graphic.  It’s by no means exhaustive but it does give a sense of where growth is coming from, recent traffic levels, the impact of brand pages and of-course the gender split.  If anyone has any further stats then please share them in the comments section. Walmart : Burden Or Brilliant? The Truth Revealed

Something a bit different I know but I thought it worthwhile sharing the the following info-graphic that quite pointedly  illustrates the size and power of Walmart.  Walmart is an overwhelmingly successful business but has grown at a cost.  While the Walton family rakes in mega bucks the companies 2.1 million staff receive pitiful salaries, no healthcare and sometimes horrible working conditions.  In addition Walmart has taken advantage of local financial incentives to build huge warehouse style superstores only to up sticks and move outside city limits once main street has been destroyed the the incentives have dried up.

If you are interested in learning just how big Walmart has become (It actually imports the same amount of Chinese goods as Germany!) then read on. [Read more...]

Bing Search : A Year In Review (2011)

I’m pretty sure the next 4 weeks will be dominated by Christmas campaigns and 2011 review videos like this one from Bing.  Curiously they released this in November insinuating that Bing or Microsoft as a whole don’t recognise the month of December!  The video covers the most searched terms that have shaped the last year from the devastating Tsunami that shook Japan to the sad passing of Steve Jobs.  It’s both a reminder of the breakthrough and heartbreaks that we have all experience in 2011 and a springboard to a fresh start in 2012.

Social Media Australia : The Story In 2011

Since I live and work in Australia I thought I’d share some localised research pulled together by Digiocial using the recent Sensis Social Media Report for 2011.  As info-graphics go this is very comprehensive, in-fact as you scroll down you begin to feel like its never going to end!  There are a tone of great facts which I won’t regurgitate here but it does cover both consumer and business behaviours which is rare.  Once world of warning though, check the sample size if you use any of the data, in some places, especially against some of the older audience segments the numbers aren’t as robust as I would like.

The State Of Search Engine Land

With the social networking wars in full effect the last major digital battleground, search, has taken a bit of a back seat recently.  However while the media has been looking elsewhere the competition has certainly been heating up.  Bing, the search engine that everyone loves to a) hate, b) dismiss, has been making steady progress in the US, nibbling away at Google in the most annoying of fashion.  To illistrate the current state of the search market, Search Engine Journal have put together a really nice info-graphic.

Super charge your social media career

‘Your country needs you!’  I’m pretty sure that was the line on many of the early World War II recruitment posters, if not is must have been ‘Want Action?’.  People are rushing toward another movement right now, and that seems to be a career in social media.  To help future stars make their mark, Voltier Creative have put together a little infographic highlighting some of the pre-requisites and/or considerations any social strategist should be aware of.
