The rising influence of technology, increasing transparency, consumer voice, shifting retail models, global accessibility, accelerating veticalisation of brands, smartphone ubiquity, the list goes on and its why many people believe we are in the midst of an economic shift on par with the change experienced during the industrial revolution. The world we live in is altered everyday by the continued impact of digital. Some days the increments are small, others its huge. Brands and businesses rise and fall, products get smarter or more connected, platforms and experiences appear and disappear, it all adds up to what Peter Fisk succinctly calls, Game-changers. A presentation well worth a read.
Consumer confidence in marketing has shifted radically in recent years. Peer reviews, friends & family and word of mouth has grown in importance while the trust placed in paid for media has taken a hit. Brands are being forced into transparency as they look to narrow the gap between marketing claims and actual consumer experience. So what’s the end game? I’m hoping a renewed focus on quality & experience.
As Facebook continues to ready itself for its IPO you may wonder what the other biggest internet IPOs have been in the last 10 years. Well lucky I’m here because look what I have…an infographic on the biggest internet IPOs in the last 10 years! Yup, I’ve got ya back!
I love it when big corporates go to war. In most cases the battles play out in courtrooms, behind closed doors or via well scripted and politically correct press releases. Not in this case! Microsoft have pulled out their claws and are swiping like crazy at Google! Hopefully there will more of the following to come because its mildly amusing!

John Bell, Global Managing Director at Social@Ogilvy shares his thoughts on how businesses need to wake up quickly to the inevitable shift in consumer behaviour toward social expression. Businesses that are experimenting, testing and learning are well placed to succeed, those that aren’t, well something is also inevitable.
Late in December comScore released a white paper entitled ‘It’s a Social World – Top 10 Need-To-Knows About Social Networking And Where It’s Headed‘. It’s chocablock with interesting and current information on the wide world of social and is a must read for anyone working in or around the social media industry. Problem was the co-released slideshare presentation was a little cumbersome and heavy. Well not anymore, the marcomms team at comScore have released a made for presentation version of the deck and is well worth downloading in case you need to borrow any of its insightful goodness.
It will probably be the hottest tech float for the next decade and one that eclipses every internet IPO that has ever been, but what do we really know about the Facebooks public offering? Who are the winners and losers? How much will Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin and Sean Parker actually make? And what do the commercials look like considering the valuation that’s being placed on the platform?
The answers to all these questions and more can be found in this handy little info-graphic, so sit back and take a look at the waves Facebook is about to make. Read more…
Something a bit different I know but I thought it worthwhile sharing the the following info-graphic that quite pointedly illustrates the size and power of Walmart. Walmart is an overwhelmingly successful business but has grown at a cost. While the Walton family rakes in mega bucks the companies 2.1 million staff receive pitiful salaries, no healthcare and sometimes horrible working conditions. In addition Walmart has taken advantage of local financial incentives to build huge warehouse style superstores only to up sticks and move outside city limits once main street has been destroyed the the incentives have dried up.
If you are interested in learning just how big Walmart has become (It actually imports the same amount of Chinese goods as Germany!) then read on. Read more…
