Having spent my entire career working in the advertising and marketing industry and I can assure you that everyone behaves in exactly the same way I do! If only huh! Here’s a infographic that does its best to highlight the differences between the mad men microcosm of society and the general population.

The Digital Divide – Brands & Consumers Don’t See Eye
A recent survey by the CMO Council of 120 senior marketers and 1000 consumers has been lovingly crafted into the below info-graphic which shares some pretty uninspiring conclusions. It seems that although ‘social media’ is generally recognised as a way to engage with a brands consumers, have a conversation or otherwise create a reciprocal relationship, marketers still largely have little idea what their customers want, or why they do what they do!
In addition to the above info-graphic the CMO Council have also released the following white paper that further explores the digital divide and will hopefully open a few eyes so in the process. [Read more...]
Facebook App Lets You Send One Last Status Update After You Die!
If there is an afterlife I wonder if its full of spirits cursing their luck for not sending out one more Facebook status update before they passed?! Luckily for those of us still here a new Facebook app called ‘If I die‘ allows anyone that way inclined to pre-record a final farewell to be released once the grim reaper drops by. Ten years ago this would have seemed completely insane but given the seismic shift in behaviour and attitude toward social services and platforms this only feels mildly weird now! If anyone reading this gives it a go please drop me a note or comment here, I’d love to know what you thought.

Kleenex Uses Facebook To Help People Feel Better
The use of online conversations to power marketing initiatives is still largely in its infancy with the real focus at the moment being (reactive) customer service. Kleenex on the other hand saw an opportunity to be a little bit more proactive. By monitoring peoples Facebook status updates a selection of individuals who mentioned how sick they were were sent a little surprise and delight care package to make them feel better! Even though only 50 parcels were sent the inherent surprise and goodwill it showed generated a great response delivering over 650,000 impressions 1800 interactions and a 100% share rate. Its a powerful idea thats not to disimilar from the Samsung UK initiative that sent out Galaxy S phones to unhappy iPhone 4 customers when the antennagate scandel hit.

iPhone App Determines Your Sex Profile
So apparently Swedes know what condoms are but aren’t very good at using them! To help change this sexually irresponsible behaviour the Stockholm County Aids Prevention Programme came up with the idea to build a mobile app to record Swedes sexual encounters! To activate you simply turn the “Sex Profile” app on and lay the phone next to you, the app then records your rhythm and duration before graphing your very own Sex Profile! You can then upload your personal sex graph and compare it with other participants! I’m lost for words!
Strategy & Theory On How To Craft The Next Viral Sensation
Charlie bit my finger, LOL Cats, The untimely death of Jeff Goldblum in 2009 (he didn’t really die!), these are all pieces of content or ideas that have gone viral online. Sometimes we can determine why and other times it just seems to be a serendipitous clash of relevance and resonance. In a bid to add a little more knowledge and best practice around crafting a viral hit the team at Problogger have pulled together the following info-graphic;
Although largely conceptual, there are some interesting strategies and theories that will point any budding ‘viral marketer’ in the right direction. [Read more...]
Renault Runs Silent Song Contest On Facebook
Who here is guilty of letting loose and singing like crazy in their car? I am…and in the shower…but we’ll leave that there! Boondoggle Belgium turned this curious human behaviour into a fun Facebook based game to launch the new Renault Clio. A series of videos posted on the page had Clio drivers singing like their lives depended on it with the only catch being the sound had been removed. To play along all you had to do was lip read the songs, enter the correct answers as quickly as possible and the player with the most correct at the end of the promotion won the Clio!
