Moving on from the Australian focus of our last post we now have a more global perspective on the continued growth and change within the world of social media. The video is packed with current stats and facts and even manages to squeeze in a single Google+ stat (more would have been welcome!). Regardless its an easy way to pass a few minutes and should help arm the growing school of social media ninja-gurus with the latest numbers.
Sony Ericsson Want You To Unlock The Power Of Xperia On Facebook
Sony Ericsson, the mobile manuafacturer that’s likely to become just ‘Sony’ in 2012 have launched a Facebook competition for their new arc handset, the most recent addition to the Xperia line. Anyone wanting to participate need only head over to the Facebook page here, like it if you haven’t already and then try and guess the 4 digit unlock code. The rest is pretty straight forward, you guess correctly and you win the handset (there are 10 being given away), you don’t…well bad luck, try again! Lets be honest though, this is probably the most competitive period the mobile industry has ever seen and if Sony Ericsson are going to drive brand preference they are going to need to be a little more innovative than this. That Sony buyout and hopefully re-imagining of the brand cannot come soon enough!

Romanian Chocolate Bar Tries To Change Google’s Auto-Complete Search Feature
Pretty much everyone knows of, or has experienced Google’s auto-complete function when searching. Sometimes its helpful and other times it can be quite revealing. For example the top auto-completed search begining with the phrase ‘Why do’ is ‘Why do dogs eat grass’. Weird! Well unfortunately for Romanians the first few auto-completed search terms for ‘Romanians are’ include stupid, ugly and rude. That’s why ROM (a Romanian chocolate bar) has launched a campaign to change peoples perceptions of the country using Google’s auto-complete feature. Between now and December 1st (Romania day) ROM is encouraging anyone and everyone to uses positive phrases such as ‘Romanians are smart’ or ‘Romanians are beautiful’ to change the top auto-completed terms and spread joy and happiness around the world. Slightly strange campaign but great leverage of a well known digital behaviour, check out the website here.
Honda Launches ‘The Experiment’ : An HTML5 Browser Based Game
Honda UK, W+K London and B-Reel have launched a new HTML5 browser based advergame called ‘The Experiment‘. The game challenges players to create a series of chain reactions by placing pop-up windows in the right sequence. Different placements trigger various chain reactions, with thousands of permutations possible. As you progress through the levels new features are revealed hopefully continuing the excitement…but we all know these things can get old quickly! It kinda reminds me of the old Honda Accord Cogs ad from yesteryear but revamped for 2011!
Anti-Slavery Campaign Uses Facebook To Make Their Cause Relevant For Today
How do you make an anti-slavery message relevant today? Definitely a conundrum but one I think JWT London have cracked with this online film for the charity, Anti-Slavery International. Using the familiar functionality and features of Facebook, ‘Lala’ the unpaid domestic servant living in London provides a glimpse into the lonely and often desperate life of a modern-day slave. Lala is seen as having no Facebook friends and no hope of escaping her miserable life until the film ends and Anti-Slavery International adds her as a friend. Visit their website to take action.
McDonald’s ‘Best Fries On The Planet’ Projection
Some of you may remember the fantastic light projection that ran in London turning the BT Tower into a light saber. Well that great campaign could possibly just have been topped by McDonalds with their ‘Best Fries on the Planet’ campaign. From now until December 8th the sky over Clark and Ontario streets will be illuminated by ‘Fry Lights’, also known as huge yellow beams of light! The lights are so bright they can be seen up to 3 miles away ensuring that everyone in the local area will always be able to find the best fries in the world!
