Apologies in advance, I couldn’t resist! I don’t know if its the hamsters themselves or the fact we are supposed to believe they can stop war and move murderous cyborgs to break dance simply by busting some outrageous moves themselves, but I had to share this ad! Its a 60 second TVC for the Kia Soul, a urban cross-over vehicle by the Korean motor manufacturer and I’m praying they take this through the line and give away little hamster shuffles in return for a test drive!
Even super heroes need to advertise
Sometimes its the simplest ideas that cut through the clutter, grab you buy the ears and demand your attention. To help launch the Green Lantern (movie) in Brazil a simple idea was built on the super heroes oath;
“In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight! Let those who worship evil’s might, beware my power.. Green Lantern’s light!”
The key phrases being, the blackest night and beware Green Lanterns Light. To bring these words to life an unconventional canvas was used… bicycle wheels! Smart LED lighting was added to the wheel spokes to create images, words and animations. The bikes were then peddled around Rio and Sao Paoulo at night, creating a cool urban representation of the Green Lanterns light.
Heineken create the perfect billboard
Carlsberg have their ‘Probably the best…’ campaign and it seems Heineken now have ‘This … is occasionally perfect’, and in this case its a billboard! A seemingly innocuous outdoor panel was placed on Great Jones St, New York sporting the simple line ‘This billboard is occasionally perfect’. Over the next few days nothing happened and in all honestly probably no one noticed as as billboards go it was nothing special. Then on August 17th the curtains went up, the mystery built and when the big reveal came around a stage had been constructed and Brooklyn band ‘TV on the Radio’ played in impromptu set to the backdrop of Heniekens poster.
The ADZAG_ weekly round-up
Mobile again featured heavily this week, does that make this the year of mobile? Personally I hope that ship has long sailed but when the media news rooms are a little light on genuine stories the mobile debate is always worth dusting off! So here’s our round-up of the best of the week incase you missed anything;
- Domino’s blows the lid on professional food photography showing everyone what real pizza looks like.
- Pirate radio was used in Germany to persecute innocent people, slightly freaky!
- Creative ego’s from around the world have been further fueled with the release of the Award Shelf app.
- UNICEF make it easy to ask for that inconsequential amount of money your friend owes you.
- Smokers are the target of positive peer pressure to help them kick the habit.
- Red Bull creates the world largest urban art gallery using Google maps.
- Twitter makes the bold statement that its quicker than earthquakes!
In other news, AdZag_ launched its Facebook page, its still currently in that pinkish new born baby phase, so please like it, it will help it sleep through the night!
The Award Shelf app – Putting advertising egos in pockets everywhere!
If there’s one thing the ad industry has in abundance, its egos! Ego’s that like to be massaged and tickled by industry awards and accolades, while being fed champagne and intricately designed canapés! Problem is, the little trophies that are passed out to the best in the industry are too big and bulky to be carried around with you all the time. Fear not though, Jung von Matt has created the answer, the Award Shelf app that lets you record all the major awards you have won on your mobile, ensuring they are ready in your pocket the next time someone questions your awesomeness!
