Have you ever seen a hamster shuffle?

Apologies in advance, I couldn’t resist!  I don’t know if its the hamsters themselves or the fact we are supposed to believe they can stop war and move murderous cyborgs to break dance simply by busting some outrageous moves themselves, but I had to share this ad!  Its a 60 second TVC for the Kia Soul, a urban cross-over vehicle by the Korean motor manufacturer and I’m praying they take this through the line and give away little hamster shuffles in return for a test drive!

Even super heroes need to advertise

Sometimes its the simplest ideas that cut through the clutter, grab you buy the ears and demand your attention.  To help launch the Green Lantern (movie) in Brazil a simple idea was built on the super heroes oath;

“In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight! Let those who worship evil’s might, beware my power.. Green Lantern’s light!”

The key phrases being, the blackest night and beware Green Lanterns Light.  To bring these words to life an unconventional canvas was used… bicycle wheels!  Smart LED lighting was added to the wheel spokes to create images, words and animations.  The bikes were then peddled around Rio and Sao Paoulo at night, creating a cool urban representation of the Green Lanterns light.

Heineken create the perfect billboard

Carlsberg have their ‘Probably the best…’ campaign and it seems Heineken now have ‘This … is occasionally perfect’, and in this case its a billboard!  A seemingly innocuous outdoor panel was placed on Great Jones St, New York sporting the simple line ‘This billboard is occasionally perfect’.  Over the next few days nothing happened and in all honestly probably no one noticed as as billboards go it was nothing special.  Then on August 17th the curtains went up, the mystery built and when the big reveal came around a stage had been constructed and Brooklyn band ‘TV on the Radio’ played in impromptu set to the backdrop of Heniekens poster.

Facebook sends real flowers to people on their birthday

What if a digital happy birthday was also a real world happy birthday!  1-800-Flowers have an interesting idea which looks to tie together Facebook wall posts with its real world same day delivery service.  Through a Facebook application birthday wishers can gift a single virtual flower to the birthday boy or girl.  Over the course of the day those virtual flowers are put together in a single bouquet which is then delivered to the lucky individual before the sun sets.  Nice!

Twitter say they are faster than earthquakes!

There has been a fair amount of media coverage concerning social media and the speed at which news spread when the recent earthquake hit Virginia in the US.  Apparently it took 30 seconds for the 5.9 magnitude quake to travel up the east coast and shake the Big Apple, ample time to send a tweet (If you weren’t running around looking for cover!).  In a new promotional video, twitter wants people to believe that not even mother nature can compete in the real time stakes!  Funny or misguided?

Mobile app creates positive peer pressure to stop smoking

Everyone that remembers their childhood can probably recall seeing or experiencing peer pressure around smoking.  In fact, behavioural analysis highlights it as one of the key influencing factors on why people start smoking.  Taking that insight and flipping it on its head, students at the The Miami Ad School have created a mobile app that creates positive peer pressure for smokers to quit.  Built around a smokers social circle (non-smokers) the app experience begins by asking friends to make a financial commitment and defining a quit date.  If the smoker agrees then the app ensures there is support and constant encouragement,  help when tempting situations appear and an ongoing social tracker of progress.  If the smoker quits successfully then all the friends get their money back, if not then its donated to the Cancer Society!

UNICEF make it easy to ask for your money back

We would all (mostly) lend the change we had in our pockets to a friend in need. The problem is getting is back!  The amount is often too little to care about and asking the question can send uncomfortable shivers down most of our spines.  But what if there was another way, a way that that inconsequential amount of change could do good and make you feel better about asking in the process.  UNICEF’s innovative mobile application does just that, making the question more palatable and the receipt of change a selfless act as its immediately donated  to UNICEF.  Give it a go.

The Award Shelf app – Putting advertising egos in pockets everywhere!

If there’s one thing the ad industry has in abundance, its egos!  Ego’s that like to be massaged and tickled by industry awards and accolades, while being fed champagne and intricately designed canapés!  Problem is, the little trophies that are passed out to the best in the industry are too big and bulky to be carried around with you all the time.  Fear not though, Jung von Matt has created the answer, the Award Shelf app that lets you record all the major awards you have won on your mobile, ensuring they are ready in your pocket the next time someone questions your awesomeness!
